RESEARCH

RESEARCH INTERESTS

The molecular aspects of regulatory and metal-ion binding proteins as they can be studied by high resolution NMR spectroscopy, fluorescence, infrared and circular dichroism spectroscopy, protein engineering, molecular modelling and biocomputing.
Noninvasive NMR studies of the phosphate and amino acid metabolism, pH-control and cation-gradients in plant  cells of biotechnological importance.

RESEARCH IN PROGRESS

Structure and function studies of regulatory calcium binding proteins.  Presently our main focus is on spectroscopic studies of calmodulin, and its interactions with target proteins.  In addition calcium-dependent protein kinases and calcium-integrin binding proteins are studied as well. The metal-iron binding properties of transferrins, related bacterial iron-binding proteins and various periplasmic siderophore-iron complex binding proteins are characterized with biochemical, spectroscopic and NMR techniques.
Spectroscopic characterization of the Pseudomonas enzymes involved in detoxification of aromatic chlorophenols (environmental biochemistry).
